Welcome to Society for Alternative Learning and Transformation (SALT) - 2013.

“Can that which is tasteless be eaten without SALT?” (Job 6:6). Jesus told his disciples; “you are the SALT of the Earth” (Matthew 5:13). Among the Jews and majority of the traditional African communities, SALT has very deep socio-cultural and spiritual value and meaning. SALT played a great role in ritual purity and all sacrifices had to contain SALT. The world today needs the same SALT, and we are the SALT; the Society for Alternative Learning and Transformation.

We go out of way in giving the world the fine taste of SALT. Without SALT “Man will continue to feel himself isolated in the cosmos, because he keeps on losing (his cultural identity and) connection with nature. Natural phenomenons have slowly lost their symbolic implications. Thunder is no longer the voice of an angry god, nor is lightening his avenging missile. No river contains a spirit; no trees the life principle. . . .no snake the embodiment of wisdom, no mountain cave the home of the great demon. No voices now speak to man from stones, plants and animals, nor does he speak to them believing they can hear. His contact with nature has gone, and with it has gone the profound emotional energy that this symbolic connection supplied.” James Hollis.

Promoting alternative civilization for the generations to come. Giving the society the true taste of community development.

1. Promote seed diversity and livelihoods among indigenous communities in Kenya
2. Promote community eco-cultural governance in management ecosystems and territories
3. Promote learning between generations for the transfer of knowledge from elders to the youth
4. Institutional development, collaboration and networking and consultancy services
5. Engaging with policy, advocacy, research and documentation to influence public opinion

Cohesive societies living in harmony with Mother Earth and appreciating their self determination in defining the kind of development they want; which is sustainable and holistic and takes into account the welfare of the future generations.

SALT will work to liberate people’s mindset from the bondage of development model that destroys nature and Mother Earth by being part of a bigger global society that promotes indigenous knowledge, alternative learning and transformation that fosters appropriate endogenous development and technology.
